Lawsuit alleges GOP chairman on the hook for $30 million -- Harris County

The Republican Party prides itself on being a champion of personal responsibility, a perennial critic of plaintiffs' lawyers and the bedrock of fiscal conservatism, particularly when it comes to borrowing against the future to pay for current spending.

All of which would seem to put Jared Woodfill, chairman of the Harris County Republican Party, in an awkward position these days.

Woodfill, a plaintiffs' lawyer, is facing a collection lawsuit from a New York law firm alleging he owes nearly $30 million for a loan he defaulted on two years ago. The loan, in part, was to bankroll litigation Woodfill pursued against the BNSF Railway on behalf of some Somerville residents who blame the company for their health problems.

Woodfill denied that he defaulted on the loan and said he expects a possible settlement of the lawsuit within a few days.

Yes, he is a plaintiff's lawyer--that's akin to being a LIBERAL in the GOP!

IIRC, the lawsuit from the residents of Somerville deals with the railroad ties soaked in creosote being kept in a railyard that parallels both Texas Highway 36 and the railroad itself. Somerville is 15 miles away from where I live in Brenham. I haven't been there in a few years, but overall the town appears impoverished with a large concentration of minorities. I'm not surprised that it's a dump yard for another mega-corp.

Just an FYI.

The gop hates the government, except on payday. Case in point the Chairman of the Harris County republican party, Jared Woodfill.

His dad is a 30+ year veteran of the government working for NASA. I know this because he works across the hall from me. His father's sucking on the tit of the government was able to pay for Jareds college education and his law school.

Funny how he can call for the end of government.
