Gov. Greg Abbott was discharged Friday afternoon from Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio after treatment for severe burns received a week earlier, his office said.
Abbott had been hospitalized since Monday, when doctors discovered a minor infection while he was receiving additional treatment after scalding water left second- and third-degree burns on the governors lower legs and feet. Abbott was injured during a family trip to Jackson Hole, Wyo., on July 7 and received skin grafts Tuesday to repair damage to his feet.
He will return to Austin to continue his recovery and to work, his office said.
The governor and the first lady are thankful to all the doctors and medical professionals at BAMC who provided excellent care during their stay this week, and to the public for their overwhelming support and prayers, Abbotts office said in the announcement.
