Travis County Republicans to try to remove Robert Morrow as chair

Members of the Travis County Republican Party on Friday will announce they are trying to oust their elected chairman, conspiracy theorist Robert Morrow, because of his bid for the presidency, said Matt Mackowiak, the party’s former vice president and a vocal Morrow critic.

The party referred to its executive vice chairman, David Duncan, as “acting chairman” in a news release Thursday advising media to attend the Friday morning announcement. Party spokesman Andy Hogue said he cannot release additional details until Friday morning.

“I am the chairman of the party, so who are these people?” Morrow said. “I will tell you this: If they try to remove me as party chairman, they have no legal right to do that. The case law on this is probably very thin for whatever pretext they’re going to try to do.”

Morrow’s shocking March 1 election, in which he unseated James Dickey, made international headlines after reporters delved into his vulgar, pornographic and profane social media history.
