Wage-theft victory aims to encourage fight against rights’ abuse

ALAMO, TEXAS — Through a recent victory for worker’s rights for two immigrant workers, Fuerza del Valle and the Texas Civil Rights Project hope to encourage others to fight back against the abuse of workers’ rights.

“We’re very happy to be here today to report a recent victory we’ve had in worker’s rights case, more specifically, a wage theft case,” said Efren Olivares, regional legal director and attorney with the Texas Civil Rights Project.

Olivares was one of the attorneys for two men, Juan Manuel Arciga Garcia and Sandro Alejandro Garcia Moreno, who reported receiving abuse while employed with Pollos Medina, a chain restaurant in Mission and Alton. Both claimed they worked long hours with little pay and were abused verbally and physically.

In a summary judgment, U.S. District Judge Micaela Alvarez awarded Garcia and Moreno $108,040.63 for unpaid wages and damages.
