Democrat objects to Republican signs on Victoria County property
On the first day of early voting in Texas, the contentiousness of the 2016 election season made a rare appearance at Monday's Victoria County Commissioners Court meeting.
"I'm asking the county if there's a new policy which allows political signs, specifically Republican political signs, on county property," said Ron Reyna, a self-described moderate Democrat and one-time candidate for Victoria County Judge and Precinct 3 County Commissioner.
"If there's a new policy, we would certainly like to take advantage of it in future elections," added Reyna, who owns an electrical contracting firm in Victoria.
Reyna, 56, told Victoria County Judge Ben Zeller he had noticed the campaign signs of State Rep. Geanie Morrison, R-Victoria; Texas 13th Court of Appeals Judge Greg Perkes, R-Corpus Christi; and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump had been illegally placed on a county-owned lot located at the corner of Juan Linn and Moody streets for more than a month.
