Hundreds of Baylor students walk woman to class after alleged racist attack

When a Baylor University student said she was "shoved" off a campus sidewalk last week because of her skin color, the community rallied together online and in person to ensure she felt safe on her next route to class.

On Nov. 9, Natasha Nkhama's testimony of a racially charged incident she encountered on the Waco campus was posted on Twitter by her friend, Jaileene Maite.

In the minute-long clip, Nkhama described her walk to class, when she said a student went "out of his way" to "bump" and "shove" her off the sidewalk and voice a racial slur. Another student, a stranger to Nkhama, defended her.

The alleged attacker student responded: "I'm just trying to make America great again," Nkhama said in the video. The phrase was used by President-elect Donald Trump during his campaign.

I just worry about the time when nobody is handy to walk her to class and sad that this is what our nation has come to.

By the way, my mom was at the grocery store and a black female clerk helped her with her cart to her vehicle, which Mom usually doesn't accept help, but this time she did (she's super independent!). While they were walking to Mom's vehicle, a white man went out of his way to brush by them and made a racial slur directed towards the young woman pushing the cart. Mom turned and hollered, "Jerk!" I'm glad he just kept on going because Mom is in her 70s, really tiny (all of 115 pounds), and has had open heart surgery. Really proud of her for standing up to the bully, but it frightened me, too. The clerk, who had been cheerful and making small talk, was holding back tears and became quiet. This happened in a Safeway parking lot in Spokane, WA. The haters are everywhere.
