Texas A&M student found dead at Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity

A student at Texas A&M University was found dead this week at the fraternity house where he lived.

Brazos County deputies were called to the Sigma Phi Epsilon house around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday and found Matthew Hayes, 20, unresponsive in his bed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fraternity members told authorities that they had last seen him around midnight Monday after he returned to the home from a party. They said they thought he was sleeping, and tried performing CPR after they found him.

Hayes, from Beaumont, was a sophomore studying engineering.
