The President is in Austin today.
3:00pm until 6:00pm
Austin Music Hall
Hello, our President will been in town July 17th at the Austin Music Hall so come join Austin MoveOn and let give him a great big Texas Welcome to show that we have his back in November. This rally will be outside the main fundraiser event so don't worry about the money. We are hoping to get around 200 or more people outside the event in support of President Obama. I am pretty sure that there will be opponents of the President there and I would like it to be the supporters out numbering the opponents so please join us.
Status: Public, open for RSVP, (Max 2000)

I think that's the first notice I got about the Austin event - from the Travis County Democratic party (TCDP) mailing list.
That and being on the TexansForObama mailing list too. They're still sending out notices via e-mail, they just don't have a website where you can sign up for e-mail anymore. So if you join the TFO Facebook page you don't exactly get e-mail notices. You would have to watch the FB page.

that the democratic club for my county started sending me emails (which was fine) and also a few local folks who help during elections etc put me on their distlists ... so now I get these types of emails and I've been able to find some of these folks on facebook to sort of keep in the loop. I'm not an activist by any means but at least I'm learning more about what is going on and can even help out from time to time.

(18,063 posts)You're not an activists but you volunteered for Obama. Honey, even if you did it for 1 hour, that makes you an activist in my book. Plus you read and post to DU. You are so too an activist.

I signed up, went to the Obama training in downtown Houston, and became a co-precinct leader during the primary in 2008. Hillary did win our county but not by much. Slowly the newer side of the county (Brazoria) is filling with democrats and the more we get out there the better. I called folks and even walked door to door. Hey, I do it to sell girl scout cookies so I figured I could talk to folks about Obama as well.
