(145,353 posts)I doubt that Sadler has a chance against either but he should have a better chance against Cruz who can be painted as an extremist. Sadler had not raised any significant money and the big contributors are hesitant to fund a statewide raise after Bill White's loss in 2010.

(32,070 posts)Editorial: Paul Sadler is the clear choice in Senate runoff

By comparison with the loud and often in-your-face Republican runoff for the Senate seat being vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchison, the Democratic runoff contest is understated.
The race between former state Rep. Paul Sadler and political unknown Grady Yarbrough of San Antonio is flying below the radar, in large part because the Yarbrough campaign doesn't really show up on the radar. No Web site. No volunteers. No press releases and few media interviews.
Who is Grady Yarbrough? He is a 75-year-old East Texas native who ran for Texas land commissioner in 1986 and 1990 - as a Republican. Do Democratic runoff voters need a better reason to turn out in good numbers to cast a vote for Paul Sadler? We don't think so. We wholeheartedly endorse Sadler to carry the Democratic banner in November ...

(9,122 posts)I didn't know that Grady Yarbrough was 75. For some reason or other I thought he was a much younger up-and-comer.
Mr. Yarbrough's candidacy now reminds me even more of DeMint's and the Tea Party's tactics. I'm also thinking about another guy who pulled the same sort of cr@p in Democratic primaries to find an opponent to Kay Bailey Hutchison--Gene Kelley.
Mr Yarbrough should do the voters of Texas a favor and step aside--NOW.

(9,122 posts)I am planning to vote for Paul Sadler. I want to vote for a Democratic candidate with a strong Democratic Party background. I'm a fifty-something voter with strong and bitter memories of political opportunists changing their party affiliations from Democratic to Republican back in the 1980's and I'm sorry, but Mr. Yarborough has NOT established his Democratic bonafides.
--
My gut feeling also made me think about South Carolina extremist Tea Party fave Jim DeMint and DeMint's last re-election bid. SOMEBODY went to a lot of trouble to recruit a non-viable Democratic candidate to DeMint so he wouldn't have to worry about a strong opponent in the general election. The Tea Partier's ploy worked like gang-busters, DeMint's Democratic opponent's campaign imploded, and DeMint remains a senator.
This is probably my general paranoia. This is probably thoroughly unfair to Mr. Yarborough and thoroughly untrue. Mr Yarborough might now be a very sincere and committed Democrat these days. But as far as I'm personally concerned, Mr. Yarborough has still to prove it for a few years yet.

(32,070 posts)I'm not a native Texan and must admit that I only got interested in politics again when Obama ran in 2008 (I knew he had a shot at winning). So I've missed many smaller elections and really don't know much about local politics but I'm learning.
Of course you are talking about Rick Perry doing the switch-er-rue, aren't you?
I think Sadler is the right choice. Nothing against a senior but there comes a time in life when you need to step aside and let the younger generation take over.

(9,122 posts)I voted early for Paul Sadler this morning. Action speaks louder than words displayed on a computer screen, and I'd HATE to be the sort of bozo embarassed by the fact that he felt strongly about given issues or politicians, but forgot to vote.

Thanks for the reminder to vote. Let's keep the runoff kicked.
It's going to be very low voter turnout - on both sides.

(8,692 posts)Are there going to be early voting locations out of assigned districts?

(145,353 posts)When you vote, just ask for a change of address card. You will be allowed to vote at your old address and the change of address card will ensure that you can vote in November.

(32,070 posts)Friends we need to get out to vote and make our voice count.
PLEASE vote for Paul Sadler for US Senate. The Yarbrough running in that race is not from the Ralph Yarbrough family. He has run twice as a Republican.

(17,291 posts)He actually has the qualifications to be a Senator, here's hoping some sort of divine intervention comes to pass and he actually wins in November.

(32,070 posts)just a small room in a school with 3 election officials and about 6 machines. Tons of Cruz and Dewhurst signs ... and 2 for Sadler.

(30,252 posts)Sadler is actually travelling the state with what little resources he has to get the message out about his campaign.
Yarbrough has a TV spot, but he was a Republican not that long ago and doesn't exactly come across as "Mr. Personality." And I have yet to hear of him hitting the campaign trail.
