Physician runs for Congress against Rep. John Carter

After years of mulling it over, family physician Dr. Christine Eady Mann had settled on running for public office after she retired.

The November election changed those plans for the Leander mother of three.

She kicked off her Democratic congressional campaign May 20 in hopes to take the seat occupied by Republican Congressman John Carter for eight terms.

Dr. Mann has never run for public office before. She's been involved politically, working as a county voter registrar, helping with Georgetown City Council woman Rachael Jonrowe's re-election campaign, and organized WilcoIndivisible, an activist group that promotes progressive policies. Dr. Mann said she's visited Congressman Carter's office multiple times with the WilcoIndivisible group to voice their concerns about the district. She's worried Mr. Carter isn't listening to all the residents in his district, which includes Williamson and Bell Counties.

"He's very inaccessible and that's something I'd definitely want to change," Dr. Mann said.
