Democrat sets events to announce run for U.S. House to replace Louie Gohmert
LONGVIEW -- The government should take care of its citizens' collective needs, and the markets need a free hand on the rest, a Democrat hoping to represent East Texas in Congress said Thursday.
Political newcomer Brent Beal said he would represent everyone in the 13-county 1st District of Texas that's been represented by Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert since 2005.
He will formally announce his bid Saturday in his hometown of Nacogdoches.
On Monday, Beal will bring his campaign to downtown Longview at 6 p.m. at Silver Grizzly Espresso, 100 W. Tyler St.
