ICE worker gets probation for buying $36K in tires, car tint, gas on government dime

A former ICE employee was sentenced to probation Wednesday and ordered to repay $36,000 for using a government-issued credit card to spruce up his vehicle.

Dwight Horton, 52, pleaded guilty last year to stealing government property after admitting he bought two sets of tires, window tint and gas for his personal vehicle, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

Horton worked in Homeland Security Investigations, part of the Dallas office of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He resigned in October 2014.

"The vast majority of federal government employees are good stewards of the taxpayers' money," Charles Anderson, special agent in charge of ICE's Office of Professional Responsibility in San Antonio, said in a release. "There will be consequences to those very few who cheat the system by unlawfully lining their own pockets."
