in Texas politics but the latest tea Party assault where they even took out Dewhurst with Cruz puts us on a par with what happened in Wisconsin. Even the Tea Party says it's their biggest win this year.

http://view.ed4.net/v/TNGYL1/WLZSD9/72227SE/00N8P/MAILACTION=1&FORMAT=H?wpisrc=nl_politics

At least of couple of repub incumbent chairmen were taken out- I assume by the Tea Party as well. I was not up on Tea party candidate take overs and was asking from info from those who were.
I know what our baseline of crazy is. I was just hoping we weren't heading for Wisconsin territory cuz sadly, UT will not respond like Madison.

We expected the Cruz win. Every reputable polling firm was hinting it was coming. Huge amounts of Super PAC money poured into that race and now Dewhurst is at least $11 million poorer.

On the side of the Texas republican base hating Latinos - republican Supreme court incumbent David Medina lost to a white sounding surname. A guy who did very little campaigning and even went so far as to say early on in the race "I can beat a Mexican name".

Texas Senator Jeff Wentworth - the last of the moderate Texas Senators went down in flames to tea party nut bag Donna Campbell.

Texas Observer 7/31/12
Liveblog: Run-Off Elections 2012

10:33 p.m.: With 76 percent of precincts reporting, former state judge and wingnut John Devine appears likely to oust incumbent David Medina for a seat on the Texas Supreme Court. There is no Democratic candidate. So tonight’s winner—and that seems to be Devine—will win the seat on the state’s highest civil court.

Devine is truly a radical jurist. We outlined the Medina-Devine race in detail here, but the highlights are thus:

—When Houston lawyers were surveyed about candidates this year by the Bar Association, more than two thirds said John Devine was “not qualified” to be a Texas Supreme Court justice.

—When Devine ran for judge in 1994, the Houston Press said he would be an “ayatollah on the bench” because of his extreme pro-life stance. Devine has been arrested repeatedly (at least three times, although he has claimed 37) at protests outside abortion clinics, and his wife carried their seventh child to term despite the fact that the child would not survive and the pregnancy could have killed her.

Devine is the absolute worse kind of human being. Calling him an ayatollah is actually being too reserved. He's an absolute disgusting, hateful nut bag. Medina isn't exactly golden but in the scheme of things he was far better than Devine.

After all with the Repub's platform of NOT teaching Critical Thinking skills, the Teabaggers will win handedly.

However, we are going to need an influx of our own PACS to counteract the PAC money that will be pouring into our state politics. Not sure how we will accomplish this but someone needs to help infuse money to our candidates.

Elliot Naishtat endorses it but I'm having trouble finding a link. Below is part of the email:

Dear Friends,

With results in from last night’s primaries, it’s clear who claimed victory on the Republican side: the Tea Party. Tea Party candidates won a number of key races including taking out two of House Speaker Joe Straus’ key lieutenants in the House: Chuck Hopson and Sid Miller.

Elliott Naishtat
"To the extent that it is possible to level the playing field between what Republicans can raise for campaigns and what we Democrats can raise, it is incumbent on us to establish entities like the One Texas PAC to work in an organized, professional, effective and collaborative way to accomplish this objective. I wholeheartedly support the One Texas PAC."

But, no win was more significant than for U.S. Senate. Tea Party hero, Ted Cruz, beat Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, who outspent him 3-1. Cruz won with the support of extreme right-wing groups like the Super PAC, FreedomWorks, which fueled Republicans in 2010, and the endorsement of Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin. Cruz has called Social Security “a Ponzi scheme” and said that Medicaid is unconstitutional, although Texas is 50th in the nation in health insurance coverage for women and children.

Donna Campbell, another Tea Party favorite, defeated State Sen. Jeff Wentworth by a wide margin. Campbell, when asked at a candidate forum in Hays County about how our state will address our future energy and water needs, she said “she’d have to look into it.”

There's more...But I don't have a link.

Texas Latino Democrats set up PAC to get out the vote
by Associated Press 8:56 am on 07/27/2012

AUSTIN — Two Mexican-American Democratic lawmakers launched a political action committee Thursday to mobilize Hispanic voters in Texas. State Reps. Trey Martinez Fischer of San Antonio and Ana Hernandez Luna of Houston unveiled the One Texas PAC, with Martinez Fischer pledging to match the first $50,000 in donations.

The PAC will concentrate on supporting Hispanic candidates for the Texas Legislature, engaging Hispanic voters and mobilizing them in districts where they can make a difference in an election, Martinez Fischer told The Associated Press. The group’s strategy of directly engaging voters sets it apart from other advocacy groups, he said.

Hispanics make up 37.6 percent of the state’s population, a larger percentage than Anglos, and are the fastest-growing group in Texas. Both Democrats and Republicans are trying to recruit more Hispanics into their ranks, but Hispanic people in Texas vote less compared with their population size and compared with other states. For example, eligible Hispanic voters in Texas turn out at half the rate of Hispanics in California.

Martinez Fischer said the new PAC hopes to get out the Hispanic vote by pointing out the stake they hold in Texas’ future. Demographers expect them to be the majority by 2020.

“Texas is running out of water and energy, our roads are deteriorating, and the next generation of Texans who have to face this reality will be less educated and in poor health,” Martinez Fischer said. “Apparently, our alleged pro-business Republicans think it is more important to attend Tea Party rallies than confront this reality. One Texas will change that.
Gov. Rick Perry has led efforts to make the Republican Party more attractive to Hispanics. He appointed the first Hispanic female to the Texas Supreme Court and the first Hispanic ever as secretary of state. He has welcomed many formerly Democratic Hispanic politicians, including state Rep. J.M. Lozano, who is running for re-election.

And most importantly their website: http://www.onetexas.org/

We'll have to contribute ALL we can to get Martinez to match his $50,000 to the PAC. This could turn out to be a big boost. However, I think we could use more than one We will be up against several large Repub pacs, so we need to match their effort.

Hi,

How do we defeat these people, I was I knew the correct formula. If we allow them to portray themselves as having creditability, then we will lose because the people that vote Republican do not see how "Crazy & Bigoted" these candidates are, because they are just as crazy.

We must get out & fight for every vote, do not let anyone you know that leans Democratic become apathetic & not vote.
If the Democrats do not make gains in the house & senate, then Democracy as we know it, is in trouble because the Crazy Republicans want to destroy it.
