Border Patrol agents find, rescue 60 people trying to enter the U.S. in a locked tractor trailer

Sixty people locked in a produce trailer and trying to enter the U.S. illegally were rescued by agents of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Rio Grande Valley sector Saturday morning, according to ICE.

The undocumented aliens were discovered after a canine unit hit on a tractor-trailer causing agents to to further inspect the vehicle. Agents say they found the huddled group "on and within pallets of broccoli lined with a thin sheet of ice."

According to a news release, the interior temperature of the trailer was 49 degrees and the doors were locked so that those inside had no means of escape.

The release did not specify the exact location of the attempted crossing. All people rescued declined medical treatment and were transported to the Falfurrias Border Patrol Station and "processed accordingly."
