Texas principal kicked black teen out of school for not standing for Pledge of Allegiance, lawsuit saysHouston high school senior India Landry had sat through the Pledge of Allegiance in the classrooms of at least six teachers -- about 200 times, she says, with zero trouble.
That is, until the 17-year-old landed in principal Martha Strother's office.
As the Pledge of Allegiance streamed through an intercom Oct. 2 at Windfern High School, India continued to sit in the presence of Strother and a secretary.
"Well, you're kicked outta here," Strother told India, according to a federal lawsuit filed last week.
The suit against Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and Strother alleges that school officials violated India's First Amendment rights by expelling her from school for her decision to sit through the pledge.

Hope it was worth it for them.

(5,240 posts)3. A friend of mine from Australia attended school in Alabama
for a year, his father was teaching at the War College. He did not stand and recite the pledge of allegiance and the teacher had 3 students beat him so badly he spent a week in the hospital, and was an Australian. The encouragement of hyper-nationalism by this administration is going to lead to a lot of violence against our own citizens.
