Another North Texan Announces Plans to Run for Governor

Another North Texan has announced plans to run for governor, but Democrats still don't have a major name in the race with two months left to file.

Former Balch Springs Mayor Cedrick David Sr. says he is in.

"First of all as governor, my primary role is to be an advocate for all the hardworking people of Texas," David said in a written statement. "There are many major issues that will come before Texas legislature in the next few years. They include transportation issues like repair of roads and bridges, regional rail and transit service, flood control, public education, healthcare, and criminal justice reform. In addition, we need to strengthen our values of equality within the workplace and community. In addition, we must continue to retain and attract more industries to Texas."

This past weekend, Dallas businessman Jeffrey Payne formally announced that he is seeking the job, and on Monday he opened his headquarters in Dallas. Payne says so far the average contribution to his campaign is $37.50.

"It is going to be a tough race, and we understand that. We didn't get into this thinking this will be easy," Payne said.
