Val Verde County athletic complex bond rejected by voters

DEL RIO -- Val Verde County voters on Tuesday decisively rejected a proposal for the county to issue $20 million in bonds for the construction of a county sports complex.

A total of 2,495 county residents voted in the bond election, with 1,665 voting against the proposal and 830 voting for the project, according to unofficial results posted by Val Verde County Clerk Generosa “Janie” Ramon about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The results of the election will become official once they are canvassed by Val Verde County Commissioners Court.

Ramon posted the early voting results at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday. In early voting, a total of 934 cast ballots against the proposal, with 405 in favor of the bond.
