by Abby Livingston, Texqs TribuneWASHINGTON A high-profile Democratic fundraiser in Houston this weekend is causing a stir both in the state and in Washington.
U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer will headline a fundraiser in Houston on Saturday that will raise money for several Democratic Senate incumbents and candidates, including U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke of El Paso, who is vying to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz.
But it's the fundraiser's location Hurricane Harvey-ravaged Houston and the host, a Congressional candidate named Tahir Javed, that were the sources of tension among Texas political players on Friday.
For Republicans, it was an opportunity to hammer Schumer over a hold up in a massive disaster funding bill. Back in December, House Republicans passed $81 billion in disaster relief bill, to be split between Texas and states hit hard this year by hurricanes and wildfires.

You faring well?
I don't know what to make of this 'n' that.
Pubs raggin' on Schumer. Beto couldn't show at labor union convention due to scheduling. Then got stuck in DC anyhow.
Beto reminds me (kinda) of a 'Kennedy' in features. I've been throwing a few bucks here and there for his campaign. I try to catch the 3x & 4x matches. (In the astronomical emails I get daily from 'everybody and their grandmother'!)
Waiting on 'it' to finally come to a positive resolution. Ai-yi-yi.

(112,240 posts)but neither have generated much publicity. One of the opponents, Sema Hernandez has gathered about $6.5K on Crowdpac while the other opponent Edward Kimbrough doesn't even appear to have an online presence. It was anticipated that Joaquin Castro would enter the race which would have made it into an interesting primary; however, O'Rourke has this primary wrapped up unless something scandalous happens.
