South Texas mayor sends letter backing college student who caught racist tirade on video
Kingsville mayor Sam Fugate is backing a college student who caught a racist tirade on video.
In early May, Texas A&M University Kingsville student Ali Alghamdi, 24, was running an errand in Kingsville when the driver of a black Chevrolet in front of him kept hitting his brakes, according to an article in the Huffington Post.
The driver eventually stopped in front of the Ed Lopez Building, which houses Kleberg County Community Supervision and Corrections Department and Texas Department of Public Safety driver's license offices. He got out of the car and began berating Alghamdi, who was still in his vehicle, the article states.
On May 24, Fugate wrote a letter that was sent to the university, where it was distributed to the students, said Terisa Riley, senior vice president.
