SANGER, Texas (KTRK) -- A north Texas couple is considering a divorce to help pay for their daughter's health care costs.

Jake and Maria Grey have been married for nine years.

Their 6-year-old daughter Brighton has Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, a rare chromosomal disorder that requires full-time care. Developmentally, Brighton is still a baby. She has hearing and vision impairment and seizures.

It happens here all the time. I know a couple in my small town who divorced years ago. The husband had an aneurism when he was in his thirties. He has speech problems, right side paralysis and is unable to walk without a cane. He cannot work.

They divorced so he could get better benefits. The children got better benefits when they were underage, too. They live separately now. After awhile, the marriage could not take the stresses.

My husband helps him vote. He cannot fill in the ovals without help. He has always been a Democrat. He understands that Democrats will do more for families like his.
