State panel suspends Williamson County Judge Dan Gattis over threat

The Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct has suspended Williamson County Judge Dan Gattis from judicial duties with pay, said county spokeswoman Connie Odom. The suspension was in connection to an official oppression charge filed against Gattis, she said.

It will not keep him from doing his job because he performs administrative duties in the county and has never performed judicial duties, she said.

Gattis declined to comment Friday, Odom said.

The Texas Commission on Judicial Conduct could not be reached for comment Friday evening.

The official oppression charge claims Gattis threatened Williamson County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Tim Ryle at a county commissioners meeting July 17. Ryle told the American-Statesman the judge said he would “zero” out the sheriff’s office budget if Sheriff Robert Chody didn’t stop making comments about the management of county government on social media posts.
