Downpour leaves South Texas communities under water

A heavy downpour of rain has affected areas in Nueces, Aransas and San Patricio counties, and more is in the forecast.

Rain on Saturday continued to pound Corpus Christi, Portland, Aransas Pass and other coastal communities.

Roads were washed out by morning, as a stubborn system of storms that have hovered over the area since Sunday continued to dump rain throughout the region.

A flash flood watch, now days in effect, remained in place Saturday morning, with as much as 6 inches of rain in the forecast for Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi.
