McAllen. Ground Zero for the immigration debate, family separations, and assorted goose stepping Trumpian policies.
In a long line, on the first day of early voting, I see two elderly black women. One in her sixties, the other in her 80's and walking with the help of a cane and the younger black woman.
As they advance in line they turn around and scan the long lines. They see me, watching them. I bow slightly and smile. They smile back and proceed along the line to exercise their civic duty, and their right.
I'm left with a lump in my throat and follow them in line to perform mine.

(112,249 posts)I try to post news from the southern portion of the state since I grew up in George West, but I'm not there for the eyewitness account. I'll keep my fingers crossed that our Democratic candidates will win handily in the border counties from Brownsville to El Paso.
