Former UT-Dallas employee indicted over accusation she stole $130,000 from school

A former University of Texas at Dallas employee was indicted in Collin County last week on a theft charge over an accusation that she stole $130,000 from the institution.

Linda Heard, 59, who was an administrative employee in the university's chemistry department, faces one count of theft of property between $100,000 and $200,000, a second-degree felony.

University newspaper The Mercury reported that the theft took place from 2014 to 2018 and was discovered during an internal audit in May.

Heard was arrested in July after a criminal investigation by campus police, UTD said in a statement. She is no longer employed by the university, where she started working in 1991, according to The Mercury.
