Texas School Superintendent Suspended After Alleged Fracas
The Houston Chronicle reports that Xavier De La Torre, the superintendent for Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso, has been suspended and docked three days without pay by the school board after he allegedly head-butted a fellow superintendent while attending an educators training session in June offered by the Texas Association of School Boards.
The altercation is said to have taken place in a San Antonio Whataburger, and De La Torre was believed to have been intoxicated, per a police report.
CBS Dallas/Fort Worth IDs the recipient of the alleged head-butt, according to the report: Jose Espinoza of the Socorro Independent School District, also in El Paso. Espinoza is said to have punched De La Torre in self-defense during the incident.
No criminal charges were filed, but the Ysleta board is said to have been miffed that De La Torre didn't alert them to what had happened. In a statement last week, he denied he head-butted anyone and said he wasn't the aggressor in whatever went down at the Whataburger.
