Man causes 'chaos' in incident at Memorial City Mall, Houston police say

Shoppers fled out of the Memorial City Mall in Houston on Sunday after a man wearing a partial mask jumped on a table and threw an object to the ground, authorities said.

Surveillance footage showed the man take the escalator up toward the movie theater about 3:12 p.m. then go back down minutes later wearing a partial mask, said Constable Ted Heap with Harris County Precinct Five.

"At a slow trot [the man] went through the food court ... jumped up on a table and declared that he was going to kill himself," and threw the bagged item on the ground, Heap said.

People began streaming out of the mall and alerted sheriff's deputies who had been working extra employment in the parking lot, he said.
