Joe Biden tells Texas Democrats he'll put the state in play in November

AUSTIN — Former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, told the Texas Democratic Convention on Saturday the state is within the party's reach for the first time in more than 40 years.

"Texas is an important battleground state for our campaign in 2020," Biden told the delegates gathered online because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. "I think we have a real chance to turn the state blue because of the work all of you have done."

Like many of the Texas Democratic officeholders and political insiders who spoke at the first-ever virtual convention, Biden deplored the killing of former Houston resident George Floyd, a black man who died under the knee of a police officer in Minneapolis.

And Biden also faulted President Donald Trump, who he will face in November, for he called the "relentless attack on the Latino community" that contributed to the mass killings last August in El Paso by a gunman who targeted his victims because they were Hispanic.

I want this to be the biggest landslide victory in history. As James Carville remarked we have to totally destroy Trumpism forever. I think he described it like he wanted to have the expressions on the faces of republicans to look like defeated German troops retreating from getting annihilated on the eastern front. Faces totally hollow and demoralized.
