Brownsville family accused of tax fraud over $760K (filing false returns on behalf of the deceased)

A Brownsville family of five is facing an eight-count indictment accusing them of filing false tax returns on the behalf of dead people, the United State Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas announced.

The indictment accuses Judy Lyn McCune of recruiting her mother Loretta Ann McCune, her sister Rania Ann Sanchez and sons Robert and Edward Gutierrez in the alleged scheme.

They are accused of filing 340 false claims totaling $763,124, according to the indictment.
