400,000 Texas homes and businesses could lose power over financial dispute between energy companies

Kelcy Warren gave a ton of money to Greg Abbott

With freezing weather sweeping into Texas late this week, subsidiaries for a major pipeline company are threatening to cut off natural gas to the state’s largest power generator — which could impact the electricity supply for hundreds of thousands of customers — over a financial dispute stemming from last February’s deadly winter storm.

Vistra Corp. subsidiary Luminant on Wednesday asked the Railroad Commission of Texas, which regulates the state’s oil and gas industry, to prevent Energy Transfer LP from cutting off fuel to five Vistra power plants, which produce enough electricity to power 400,000 Texas homes, businesses and critical infrastructure such as hospitals and schools.

Railroad Commission officials have not responded to questions about whether the agency will act.

When are people going to learn that greedy Republicans don’t care about them?

They shut schools for the first time ever in San Antonio for nothing....

They always wait until 5:00 am, unless the weather is extremely bad. They shut all the schools at 5 pm yesterday and I'm like, "huh?"..It never got below freezing...The air is too dry for precip....

This must be what they're talking about.
Snowing in Amarillo too.
Not sure of how long the freezing temps will last or if its just overnight.
This is weird.

Maybe they'll hype the "storm", then Abbott will make a deal & save the State from a pending grid disaster. He'll campaign on it!
Aaaaghhh 🤬

It's a big State.
Ugh.

It's gonna get down to 30 in my neighborhood tonight and will warm up by 9 am.

This is a "cover your plants" and "bring in your pets" event.

that's all there is. Maybe its overnight?

All I see is someone creating a narrative out of a possible ice storm in one localized area of Tx, to advance a political agenda, to cover someone's ass for last yr's fk-up, so it looks favorable for his upcoming campaign.

Guess if this 'storm' fizzles out there's always the possibility they'll get lucky & another one will come along.

That's all I got.

I'm from Wisconsin.

I could not believe that someone turned their water main off over this, but they did..LOL!

She turned her water main off last night...SMH...

I think the actions of South Texans probably make more news than the weather itself!

Heat and drought for months on end does not faze them, I think they like it...

I see on tonight's weather, there's winter storm advisories for far sw corner of Tx.
Corpus to San Antonia area, then moving east into rain. It'll change in a few days.
Think its coming from New Mexico.
Not sure how cold it'll get or for how long.
Looks like 30-40's for a few days .

Good to have a heads-up for that area anyway.

12. Texas pipeline company walks back threat to cut off gas to power plants

Energy Transfer is backing off. Cutting off customers during a cold snap would hurt Warren's investment in Greg

After threatening to cut off fuel to roughly a third of the power plants owned by Texas’ biggest power generator, a major pipeline company said Thursday it will continue selling natural gas to the plants through the end of March. But the companies have still not resolved their underlying financial dispute stemming from last February’s deadly winter storm.

Energy Transfer LP subsidiaries walked back their threat after Luminant, a Vistra Corp. subsidiary, on Wednesday asked state regulators to prevent the pipeline company from cutting off fuel to five Vistra power plants, which produce enough electricity to power 400,000 Texas homes, businesses and critical infrastructure such as schools and hospitals.

The pipeline companies had told Vistra that gas would stop flowing to the power plants on Monday unless Vistra paid Energy Transfer $21.6 million that they claim Vistra owes them, according to Vistra’s complaint to the Railroad Commission of Texas, which regulates the state’s oil and gas industry.
