Hance unsatisfied with $1 billion raised for Texas Tech, wants more

Kent Hance said he’s not satisfied with $1 billion.

The Texas Tech University System chancellor wants more — about $100 million more.

The system’s Vision & Tradition: The Campaign for Texas Tech will continue through the end of the fiscal year, Aug. 31, after officially completing its $1 billion goal in January.

“I anticipated that we were going to reach this early, in 2013, so I wasn’t surprised,” Hance said. “I was elated, because a lot of people when I started talking to them, and when I came here in ’06-’07, about raising a billion dollars, they were like, ‘Hey, that’s not going to happen. Good luck, but you can’t do that.’ So I was elated. I was excited, and I think this puts Texas Tech in a position that we’ve never been in before.”
