If I were POTUS during TEXIT

Well, the Texas Nationalists (or Nat-Cs) are at it again. There is a bill in the TX house for a referendum on secession. This is an almost annual farce but TXNatCs are really upping their game. They have a plan and a website explaining how everything will be OK and making a bunch of false promises about how the economy will be fine and everyone will keep getting their US government checks.

The worst part of their fantasy is how the US will keep all its military bases in TX as part of a mutual defense pact. Their plan has all the sophistication of a high school dropout living in their parents’ basement and proclaiming their adulthood and independence.

In the background of every TX secessionist fantasy is the idea that half the soldiers at those bases will rise up and defend TX against the US.

So here’s what I would do if I were POTUS during a real TEXIT.

At the first sign of a serious TEXIT process taking place I would move all US military personnel with TX origins or family OUT of TX to other bases. Especially commanders. As things got more serious I would move TX navy commanders off of ships.

No, there will be no one to rise up and seize the bases. All those soldiers will be loyal US citizens.

I would begin moving the most significant assets (tanks, planes, etc) out of state. NASA would reorganize and move out of state.

Defense contracts would be audited for risks if the contractors headquarters were in TX and as much defense work as possible would be moved to other locations.

Long before TEXIT occurred all US Gov facilities would begin mothballing procedures.

As a formal TEXIT agreement was being negotiated I would announce that Texans remaining in TX after the secession was complete would LOSE their US citizenship. I.e. No, they would NOT get to keep their government checks. These aren’t ex-pats, these are now citizens of another country.

By the time TEXIT was complete, no US assets or investments would be left. The economy would crash within 10 years. (Some experts say 2). Then we would buy Texas back for 5 cents on the dollar and hold them as a US Territory for the same amount of time as Puerto Rico.

All secessionists get a cool bumper sticker that says, "Citizen of Free Texas."

Nothing else changes.

to safe states with the United States. We can't just leave them suffering among the stupid R's. They've tried their best, and they've risen to the cause many, many times. We can't just leave them behind. Texas government on all levels strip them of too much of their money, assets, etc., in their normal course of living to attempt to leave it all behind on their own.

Hea... at this point, I'd like to see Texas, FL, and Idaho (and maybe a few others) go their own way (once we get everything U.S. out of the states), and try to make it on their own. But only with full disclosure to their populations. That includes notification of no more SS, Medicare, Medicaid, SSDI, or any other type of U.S. government help. It also means all positions and posts currently occupied by civilians on bases within those states are null and void and will be cancelled, as will the base, itself. Then, if their still so crazy to be with their own libertarian kind, go for it.

For those who aren't, allow them plead refugee status and give them priority for a period of time. Help them to relocate. Offer job search options, etc. You don't have to do it all for them, but at least give them a hand to get out of hell. These are our brothers and sisters in the fight, after all.

There are a lot of details to this aspect but yes, no Americans left behind and refugee status for women at a bare minimum.

They won't even get a committee hearing. It's like someone filing a bill to require everyone eat chocolate pudding five times a day. They are joke bills. The person filing them is looking for attention. A Dem could file a bill that requires that Trump eat dog shit on live TV. Does it mean the bill will be taken seriously??
