I guess you missed the thread where a wonderful Texas Rep from the Houston area asked him to reimburse the state 2 million from his campaign account. And of course the scumbag Perry refused.

Here is the thread
State rep asks Perry to pay back state for travel expenses

we have to pay Dimwit Dewhurst for pretending to be governor while he was running for Senate and Perry was running for first clown.

The first bill that needs to be filed next year in the legislature should deal with this:

If the governor of this State shall run for any federal office of the United States while governor of the State of Texas
he/she shall have 10 days within which he/she can

1) tender his/her resignation as governor effective that date, or

2) from that day forward pay, out of his/her own personal funds, any expenses that would otherwise come to to the State of Texas, or be paid by the taxpayers thereof,

a)purposes of travel or board for himself/herself and anyone else,

b) any expenses incurred by or for security detail,

c) reimbursing the lieutenant governor while serving as acting governor, or

d) for any other purpose as a result of or in conjunction with said governor's campaign or run for President

3) Payment for said expenses shall be due and payable as they come due to the State,
a) penalties and interest for late payment.

Sorry, as you see I haven't had a chance to give this much thought, so any additions and or amendments are invited.

I bet we could get it introduced. The trouble would be getting it passed. The Rs will just close ranks around their own corrupt leader.

The news I see ( and I have been a little out of touch lately, so don't quote me on this is that Perry's numbers are not really good right now - at leasa as compared to Obama - anyway, the beauty (?) of the thing is that this is not about Perry. He probably won't be there next time anyway (fingers crossed) ... and the bill should be expanded to cover anybody for any federal office. We don't make it about Perry, but about Texas taxpayers. Call it something like:

Saving the (future) Texas Taxpayers (yea !!!!!) from (evil) Political Ambitions (booo !!!!) Bill

It would cover Democrats as well as Republicans

Rep. Lon Burnam would be the man to do it. He is easily approachable and would absolutely file a bill like this. It would be better if it the request for the bill came from one of his constituents.

He currently represents the Tarrant /Fort Worth Area (District 90). Who knows where this will be once the redistricting process is finally settled.

Rep. Burnam, Lon District 90

He'll have plenty of time to work on the bill. The session won't get going until January 2013. And hopefully Lon will still have a district this fall.

Just saying that there are a lot of variables that can impact the bill filing.

Best of luck!

plus, I can use the issue for discussion for my Texas Govt. students.

As you can plainly see, my legislation drafting skills are pretty rusty.
I'll have to find my notes from that class in law school (GAWD, that was 33 years ago! - depression setting in - LOL)

Like Molly Ivins said about the Texas Legislature and the critters that make up government in our state - Texas is the bad public policy test lab.
