Democrats, who for months have been locked in a brutal battle with Republicans over Texass once-in-a decade remap, found an enemy among their own on Monday.
Party officials are fuming over Texas Rep. Henry Cuellars new alliance with Gov. Rick Perrys administration in the states redistricting battle, accusing the Democratic congressman of selling out in the name of self-preservation.
With Texass redistricting plan ensnared in federal court, Cuellar signed on to a compromise plan devised by Republican state Attorney General Greg Abbott in the hopes of finalizing a new congressional map and ending a months-long standoff.
Democrats are stunned that Cuellar would negotiate with Republicans, let alone agree to a map they argue would cost the party several seats and rob minorities of the chance to maximize their gains in the House of Representatives.

(55,981 posts)members migrate into the Democratic Party. Our tent is getting too big. But some are so naive they see this as a good thing. They think that when these republicons join the Democratic party, they stop being conservatives and become progressive. Hello, it isnt the name. The two so-called Democrats in California that scuttled single-payer is another of many examples of the new wing of the Democratic Party. They live among us now. I liked it better when the republicons were in their own party. Some wish the republicon party to die. Be careful of what you wish.

(731 posts)Among the foulest insults a Chicana Chicano endures, the word "sell-out" draws blood, especially when used cheaply, or out of jealously. I hate the term and the divisiveness it implies, that gente cannot get ahead without resentment.
That's why my preference is to identify self-hating behaviorists as "Vencido," a person beaten by the system. This Cuellar tipo appears fully to qualify for that ugly word.
Cuellar is a vendido.

(18,063 posts)Looking out for himself first. Like Aaron Pena he would easily cross over to the other isle to make deals for himself first and screw his constituents. Pena switched parties this last Texas Legislative session because that's obviously where he belonged. Cuellar doesn't have the balls to fess up and come clean on his party alignment. But he is no really friend to his district. He just runs as a Democrat because a Republican would never win that district.
