University of Vermont flies Black Lives Matter flag

BURLINGTON — Students at the University of Vermont were surprised to find the recent addition of a Black Lives Matter flag on the school's Burlington campus.

WCAX-TV reports the flag, which is being sponsored by the Student Government Association, first appeared on Thursday and will remain in its place of prominence through the weekend.

The flag is flying next to the Vermont state flag and the American flag near UVM's student center.

Several students posted photos and messages of appreciation on social media about the new flag. Backlash was also seen on social media.
