On the third day of sometimes emotional testimony in his public corruption trial, former Gov. Bob McDonnell took responsibility Friday for the acts that landed him and his wife in court, but he asserted forcefully that he is innocent of any crimes.
At the end of the trial's fourth week, McDonnell's attorney Hank Asbill finished his direct examination of the ex-governor with a series of questions ticking off the charges in the case.
McDonnell responded that he neither promised nor performed any favors for businessman Jonnie Williams in exchange for the more than $177,000 in loans, gifts and luxury vacations that Williams showered on McDonnell and his wife, Maureen.
He also denied making false statements on bank loan applications.
