Salem store owner: Nothing stood out about Rahami

Salem store owner: Nothing stood out about Rahami

Ahmad Rahami had the necessary identification and information when he walked into Trader Jerry’s this summer, said store owner Jerry Cochran.

He passed a federal background check. By all accounts, he appeared unremarkable, leaving no particular impression on the employees at the large gun store in Salem.
....

It now appears that gun may be the same used in a shootout that erupted Monday after Rahami was tracked down in New Jersey by authorities looking for him in connection to the New York and New Jersey bombings.

In Roanoke, residents of the West End neighborhood were shocked this week to learn that Rahami’s father had been renting a house on Patterson Avenue and Rahami appears to have spent at least some time there.

Nothing is going to stand out about your average zealot bent on mass murder. He's not going to shout slogans and fire his new gun through a plate glass window. He's just going to fill out the paperwork, fork over the money, and leave.

The murders at the Cascadia Mall underscore why I'll leave the area if I see some loon insisting on open carry. They're all looking for fights of one sort or another from verbal to crossfire and I don't want any part of it. There is no way to tell a "good" guy with a gun from a bad one until one of them starts shooting.

as you said "There is no way to tell a "good" guy with a gun from a bad one until one of them starts shooting."

And after the shooting starts it would still be impossible to tell good from bad.

I shudder when I imagine what might happen if a bunch of concealed carry folks meet up with an armed robber or other bad guy at the mall. Just how many friendly fire casualties would happen? How many of the "good" guys would end up shot by the police when they arrive on scene? I think it would be even more disastrous if there were a bunch of open carry folks headed in to "help" as the police arrive.
