Hat tip, DCist.com: Morning Roundup: The Amish Farm To Table Phenomenon

When torch-wielding white nationalists gathered in front of a Confederate statue in downtown Charlottesville last month, Mayor Michael Signer worried that the event harked back to the days of the KKK.
That warning has now become prophecy.
On Monday, city officials said the Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan had applied to hold a rally near the statue on July 8.
A city spokeswoman said the permit would likely be approved. ... People have a constitutional right to assemble, said director of communications Miriam Dickler.

(6,252 posts)This all started over whether to take down statues honoring Gen. Lee and Gen Jackson. Council voted to rename Lee Park and Jackson Park.
You should hear the rhetoric being spewed. Here we go......Klan heading this way! Well to be honest they have always been here. We work with them everyday live next door to these fools.

(182,829 posts)The right wing station here in Richmond just HAD to include the guy who specifically mentioned the names of two city council persons. Of all the comments (which got pretty heated I hear) it was like the station was making their names public. Sure people could look them up but it struck me as broadcasting them to invite actions by some loon.

In social media around Charlottesville, there seems to be a variety of reactions.
Some seem to want the statue of Lee and the park name to remain, but are angry that the KKK is involved.
There seems to be a growing group who says the KKK can do what they want, but that they should be ignored and can proceed with their "mutual masturbation" on the courthouse steps. Ignoring them is the most powerful message they could be given.
There are many who say they will be there to counter demonstrate and some say they will stop this rally, period.
I haven't seen any in support of the rally, but unlike DU, I have a very large block list on social media.
There is no space in the area of the Circuit Court House steps for a counter rally. There is a city street with only a sidewalk on each side. This will be a mess.
