the tornado watches and warnings that are likely to blossom later day in the lower Mississippi River valley.
(The beige color over us is a special weather statement about enhanced fire danger -- which is also why northern West Virginia is under a more serious red flag warning. On Thursday, that covered much of northern Virginia, too, and there were some sporadic wildfires)
This storm system is coming our way. As the low-pressure center tracks to our north, a wall of heavy rain and thunderstorms will push our way ahead of a cold front by late Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. There is
a marginal risk of severe storms -- mostly for strong winds -- with a more serious chance in the Carolinas where instability will be stronger.
But not today (Friday) or Saturday. These will be sunny, warm days with highs in the 70s to near 80 as the deepening low in the central U.S. pulls warmth over us from the south and southwest.
