I posted (too late) in LBN yesterday. The thread was locked as a dupe.
Amazon HQ2 decision: Amazon splits prize between Crystal City and New York

Amazon will open major new outposts in Northern Virginia's Crystal City and in New York City, splitting its much-sought investment of up to 50,000 jobs between the two East Coast sites, the company announced Tuesday.
"We are excited to build new headquarters in New York City and Northern Virginia," Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement. "These two locations will allow us to attract world-class talent that will help us to continue inventing for customers for years to come. The team did a great job selecting these sites, and we look forward to becoming an even bigger part of these communities."
The company also announced that it has selected Nashville for a new Center of Excellence for its Operations business, which is responsible for the company's customer fulfillment, transportation, supply chain, and other similar activities.
The choice of Crystal City in Arlington County as one of the winners cements Northern Virginia's reputation as a magnet for business and potentially reshape the Washington region into an eastern outpost of Silicon Valley over the next decade.

I don't see how this is going to improve the quality of life around here. Sales personnel at the nearby Alfa dealership will benefit.

Things I learned from Amazon's HQ2 announcement:
-I guess they want us to call Crystal City "National Landing" now?
-A pedestrian bridge will connect Crystal City and DCA
-Va. will invest in improvements to the Potomac Yard stop (which doesn't exist yet)

And remember how angry Amazon got when the press wrote (correctly) that Crystal City was on the verge of being chosen: twitter.com/MikeGrella/sta

(8,733 posts)But used to live in Hampton Roads...traveled to DC and such for work...the traffic and rent are already to damn high! Cant imagine once this gets started. Why would they move their HQ to two of the most densely populated, traffic congested and expensive places to live in the US??? Makes no sense at all to me.
