Steel thrown off I-5 overpass damages at least 2 cars, WSP says

Chunks of steel were thrown Wednesday morning from an overpass overlooking northbound Interstate 5 and hit at least two cars, authorities said.

The rectangular, rusty hunks of metal shattered the windshield of two cars traveling in the Interstate 90 area of I-5 at about 5:30 a.m., tweeted Trooper Rick Johnson, a Washington State Patrol spokesman.

Johnson told SeattlePI that as far as he knows, no other cars were hit. One car was contacted on Rainier Avenue and one stayed at the scene. The driver of the car that stayed was transported to Harborview Medical Center with minor injuries, Johnson said.

One of the drivers told authorities that the suspect was standing on the guardrail of the overpass. No suspect was found by WSP or the Seattle Police Department.
