A treat without tricks: Celebrate Halloween at viaduct-free waterfront

Friends of Waterfront Seattle has a trick-free treat for you.

On Sunday, Oct. 27, it is offering up an opportunity for families to enjoy the city's now viaduct-free waterfront, participate in Halloween events, and envision a park for all people -- all this plus up to four hours of afternoon free parking.

It follows a successful model from Mother's Day, when Friends teamed up with the Downtown Seattle Assn. and Seattle Aquarium to offer the opportunity to treat Mom to a Sunday brunch or lunch. The viaduct was going then, but the crunching of 1950s freeway culture was not yet complete.

Trick or Treat on the Waterfront runs from noon to 4 p.m., centered on a celebration at Pier 58. It will feature costumed characters, free live music by the Chief Sealth International High School's Mariachi Los Aguilas, plus games and giveaways.
