I will be voting against I-976.
This initiative is Tim Eymans latest attempt to overturn the will of the voters in the Sound Transit district who have repeatedly voted to tax themselves for transit improvements in the central Puget Sound region.
Voters approved these taxes in 1996, 2008 and 2016. These voters also voted against Tim Eymans I-776 in 2002 which was his last unsuccessful attempt to repeal the Sound Transit MVET.
Eyman and other conservatives claim to be for local control and citizen plebiscite but its obvious thats a lie.
Witness Donald Trumps attempt to repeal Californias emissions standards, for example, which have been in force for over 50 years. This law was signed by then governor Ronald Reagan.
This begs the question. What do conservatives stand for these days beside self-aggrandizing?
Im told the repeal of the Sound Transit MVET will not occur even if I-976 passes. Sound Transit already pledged these taxes to bond holders and despite what I-976 claims they cannot break this contract.
Some suspect that Tim Eyman purposefully writes faulty initiatives so they will be overturned therefore stirring up outrage which he taps for donations to his next misadventure.
None the less there are other municipalities such as Edmonds, Everett, Granite Falls, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace that do charge a fee and will likely lose money if I-976 passes.
Please vote no on I-976 and maybe Tim Eyman will have to get a real job.
