Food court vendors in the hollowed-out Northgate Mall are working without heat as the building undergoes a massive renovation to make room for the headquarters of Seattle's new hockey team.
Several vendors Monday confirmed that Simon Property Group, which owns the mall, has shut off heat. Piroshky Piroshky owner Olga Sagan said ownership has provided space heaters for some outlets, but she will close her location in the mall when the lease expires in March.
"I have five employees but were barely holding on to them," Sagan said. "They dont want to come to work.
Simon Property Group did not respond to a request for comment.
Sagan said the space heater helps, but the 69-degree workplace is intolerable for her workers.
