Trump puts Rep. Jayapal on 'losers' list; draws memories of Nixon 'Enemies List'

Washington's U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal was front-and-center in a list of House "losers" identified Sunday in a tweet by President Donald Trump, a brickbat/accolade occasioned Jayapal's high-profile role in impeachment deliberations of the House Judiciary Committee.

The spotlight on Jayapal evokes a distant memory, the presence of no fewer than five Washingtonians on Nixon Administration "Enemies Lists" as the 37th president brought on impeachment after a record election win.

Trump was going after Fox News, his favorite Cable TV channel, for daring to have Democrats — at least a few of them — on its news broadcasts.

It's dubious to describe Jayapal as a "loser." She piled up 329,800 votes in winning reelection with 83.56% of the vote last November, making her a top House vote getter. The longtime immigrant rights advocate is co-chair of the House Progressive Caucus, which includes nearly 100 of the 235 Democrats in Congress' lower chamber.
