Eyman wants to know, should he run for governor as a Republican?

The folks who demonize Seattle and King County have needed a standard bearer . . . someone who can rally right wing talk show hosts, rural legislators, the state Republican Party and Fox News hosts eager to decry America's "left coast."

They may soon get offered a flawed redeemer: Tim Eyman.

The ceaseless self-promoter, fresh from the I-976 victory, declared in November that he would run for governor as an independent. Eyman has faced past challenges that he be a candidate. But he has found a more lucrative gig, for-profit initiative promotion. So it was until Attorney General Bob Ferguson began investigating money laundering and kickbacks, and insisting that Eyman turn over financial records.

Eyman is pondering a new step: Should he campaign under the banner that elected Gov. Dan Evans, U.S. Sen. Slade Gorton, AG Rob McKenna, all public servants who began their careers in Seattle and King County.
