Gov. Jay Inslee quips 'leave the chair' at Tim Eyman

Initiative promoter and gubernatorial candidate Tim Eyman attempted to steal the stage from Gov. Jay Inslee on Thursday at the annual Associated Press Legislative Preview in Olympia.

Inslee responded with a put down to remember, telling Eyman to take his seat and not take the chair.

A relentless publicity seeker -- the most dangerous ground in state politics is between Eyman and a TV camera -- Eyman had emailed news media that he would be "confronting" Inslee over car tabs. He sponsored Initiative 976, the successful ballot measure that caps tabs at $30: It has blown a hole in state transportation spending estimated at $4 billion over the next five years.

"Jay, I'd like to ask you a question about $30 tabs," Eyman said, interrupting a question-and-answer session between the governor and state capital news media.

"Let me make a suggestion to you, Tim: You're welcome to have a chair," Inslee shot back.
