Inslee to Legislature: 'Let's bring Washingtonians in from the cold'
Gov. Jay Inslee? drilled down on two goals in his 2020 State-of-the State speech, putting a roof over the heads of our state's homeless, and enacting a clean fuel standard to combat climate change.
The Legislature heard an unusually focused Inslee, a dropout from the 2020 presidential race, seeking this fall to be only the second Washington governor elected to three consecutive terms.
"Let's bring Washingtonians in from the cold," he said. Inslee wants to take as much as $300 million from the state's rainy day fund to help cities and counties deal with shelter and services.
?"I've seen this growing crisis firsthand, " the governor said. "I've seen how it affects Centralia, Bellingham, Spokane, Tacoma and Bremerton."
Inslee was delivering an indirect rejoinder to some Republican politicians and radio talk jocks, who have used homelessness to demonize Seattle and King County.
