Justice department sues to allow ICE flights from King County Airport

The Trump Administration, backed by the fighting words of Attorney General William Barr, is suing King County to allow ICE agents to use county-owned Boeing Field for deportation flights.

"Enforcing a country's immigration laws is an essential function of the national government and no national government can enforce those laws properly if state and local governments are getting in the way," AG Barr told the National Sheriffs Association winter legislative conference in Washington, D.C.

Under an executive order signed by King County Executive Dow Constantine, the county acted last year to bar use of Boeing Field for ICE-chartered flights shipping deportees back to their country of origin, and to keep Immigration and Customs Enforcement from using the airport to receive detainees at the Northwest ICE Processing Center, located just south of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

"We are filing a complaint seeking declaratory and injunctive relief against King County, Washington, for the policy that forbids DHS (Department of Homeland Security) from deporting aliens from the United States using King County International Airport," Barr said.
