WSDOT planning work on I-5 that could impact Whatcom County travelers heading south

The Washington State Department of Transportation has scheduled road work that could impact Whatcom County travelers heading south on Interstate 5 this weekend and early next week.

Portions of I-5 south of Bellingham will be reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. three straight nights so that WSDOT crews can repair guardrails, according to a WSDOT news release.

None of the closures are a related to the landslide that destroyed a guardrail and closed northbound I-5 in early February, WSDOT spokesperson Andrea Petrich told The Bellingham Herald. That guardrail work was completed the week after the slide; Petrich said these repairs are all crash related.
