King County set to declare emergency in response to coronavirus

SEATTLE — King County is prepared to declare an emergency in response to the spread of novel coronavirus.

Local and state officials are scheduled Monday morning to present an update on efforts to limit the outbreak after more cases were confirmed over the weekend, including the nation’s first two deaths related to the virus. King County Executive Dow Constantine is set to announce the emergency declaration and how treatment will be assisted after 10 diagnoses there.

Snohomish County had its second and third cases announced over the weekend, including a student at Jackson High School in Mill Creek.

In all, 231 people are under public health supervision because or their potential exposure to the illness, according to figures from the Washington Department of Health.
